I am an Indo-Canadian American daughter, sister-in-law, Aunt, wife, daughter-in-law, and a mother of a toddler and an infant highly experienced in balancing between multiple roles every day. I have enjoyed multiple life transitions from a young age of a 14-year-old immigrating from India to Canada with my family, completing my education in Canada, and starting a new chapter of my life in 2015 after marrying my husband and moving to the US. I carry multiple cultural values and expectations daily on my shoulders as I walk through a shopping mall, a grocery store, or just stopping for a coffee. I have lived experience of the challenges, both positive and negative, while assimilating in a different culture using a different language and adhering strongly to my own roots.
Wholistic Approach
From the time we wake up and go back to bed, daily we interact with various systems playing specific roles in our lives at an individual level. The experiences with these systems such as work, school, college, love life, family life, and more sometimes can negatively impact a person’s interactions within these systems. Trust me, sometimees I find myself in that boat too. We are build to be social beings which does not come easy for everyone. Hence, my work at the individual, couples, and family level highly imtegrates studying the various systems with you to empower you to become confident in the driver’s seat of your life while your road map presents you with various challenges. All I ask you to bring into the sessions with me is an open-mind.
Cultural Lens
I may sound like a broken record, yet I will say it. I learn from you about your cultural values and try to incorporate them in our work together. I believe one cannot separate their cultural thoughts and practices from who they are but can change their perspective about how to carry their values today. In my opinion, cultural norms are not meant to hold us back but to provide guidance on how to move towards future changes and challenges.
I will not respond to any emails outside of my office hours to maintain my own professional and family life balance.
